CoVid19 Updates

March 19, 2020

Dear Friends,

Well, it's been quite a week as we have retooled to become a more online community of faith!  I am grateful for all the ways we can stay connected in ths chaotic time.

On Sunday, March 22-The Fourth Sunday in Lent
  • On Saturday, I will send out the prayers, links to Morning Prayer, and other resources for your use on Sunday morning if you would like to worship alone.
  • On Saturday, I will also send out links and other info we will use to gather online for Sunday worship.  Those details are still being worked out, but they are coming and we will be able to worship together even if not in the same physical space.
  • Sarah Bhatia will host Children's Chapel on Sunday morning for our families with young children.  She will send out that info closer to Sunday morning.
Next week, you can look forward to:
  • Zoom Compline on Tuesday night at 8pm.  The link will be sent out with Tuesday morning's reflection.  We will add a second night if there is interest
  • Facebook Live Evensong on Wednesday evening at 5pm.  The video on Facebook has now had over 170 views, so this is an outreach to far more people than ourselves.  The link and info to connect will be in Wednesday's reflection email.
  • Zoom Office Hours on Wednesday from 9am-11am.  Several of us had a delightful conversation yesterday at our online bring-your-own-coffee meet up.  The link will also be in the Wednesday reflection email.
Works in Progress:
  • Online brown bag lunch each week where we can meet online for conversation and fellowship over lunch
  • Online Foyer Groups where 6-8 people meet online over dinner.
  • Lego Church on April 5 online.
A few other things:
  • It has become clear that we will not be able to worship together (in the same physical space) for Holy Week and Easter.  I am attending an online workshop tomorrow and another on Monday regarding how to engage Holy Week and Easter services in this new world we find ourselves in.  More on that soon.
  • Please continue to practice the spiritual discipline of stewardship and mail in the pledge/offering you would have put in the offering plate.  Online banking is an easy way to do this without a stamp!  I still have on my to-do list to look for ways to give through a portal on our website, but we're not there yet.
  • Most importantly, keep in touch with each other.  Make a phone call (or 3 or 5).  Send an email or a note.  Staying connected is vital as we successfully navigate these new waters.  If you need ideas for someone who might need a call, please email Pam Zuhl or send me a reply email and we will be happy to help.

March 12, 2020

Dear Friends,

Our two wardens, Janet Daniels and Pam Zuhl, along with Kathy Garber, our Parish Administrator, Mario Buchanan, our Director of Music, and I met this afternoon to discuss a path forward at Christ Church in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  During the course of our meeting, we received the news that Governor DeWine has closed all public K-12 schools in Ohio for the next three weeks.

At that point, our path forward became clear.  In order to help prevent the spread of the virus, both at Christ Church and in the wider community, all services, meetings, and other events are canceled for the next three weeks.  This includes the Family Fun Night planned for tomorrow evening.  There will be no worship at Christ Church on Sundays March 15, 22, and 29.  This includes our service at Laurel Lake.  Our hope is to be able to resume regular worship on Palm Sunday (April 5).  Many of you will have received the Bishop's letter and will see that this is in keeping with the directions and suggestions in that communication.

During this time, the staff will still be working although we may be working from home.  We will be available by email or telephone/text message.  Please do not hesitate to be in touch, but please do not come by the office unless absolutely necessary and call first to make sure someone is there.

We are looking at ways to stay in community with each other during this challenging time and are open to suggestions you may have.  Our current plan is:
  • I will send out a prayer, passage of scripture, link to a hymn, or some other devotional piece each day beginning next Monday.  I will also post these on Facebook and hope that can be a vessel for communication among us.  If you have a suggestion for a prayer, passage, or hymn to share with the congregation, please let me know.
  • On Saturday evening or Sunday morning, I will send out a link to a website with Morning Prayer, a link to the readings for the day, and the sermon.  We will also send out the prayer list for each week so we can all continue to pray for those in any need or trouble, as well as for those who celebrate.
  • Trinity Cathedral will live stream a service of Holy Communion at 10am each Sunday.  The link is at www.trinitycleveland.org.
  • The Lay Eucharistic Visitors will be in touch with those they visit by phone call, email, cards, etc.
  • The Parish Care Team and I will do parish care via emails, phone calls, cards as we know of needs in the parish.
  • Pray.  Pray for those who are ill, health care workers, researchers, public health officials, those who are out of work due to this situation, and those who find themselves anxious about the future.
Please take time over these weeks to reach out to each other early and often.  We need to stay connected!  No one need feel alone, even if we cannot be together.
If you have any questions, please let me know.  I will be in touch again soon.
Blessings,
Charlotte
